 'Search' Window

'Search' window appears when the user selects the 'Search' command in the main menu or taps the hardware search button in some view listed below.

'Search' window contains the toolbar with the following action buttons ('Select all', 'Unselect all', 'Invert selection', 'Email', 'Share' and 'Copy') and the expandable list of search results grouped by feeds and articles. Check some items to make the toolbar visible.

Depending on the view where the user selects the 'Search' command, the following objects are searched.

View Objects to be searched in
'Feeds' view (Main) All feeds
'Feeds' view (Topic) All feeds that belong to the selected topic
'Topics' view All feeds that belong to all topics (Some feeds may not belong to any topic)
Feed Articles List The selected feed only

Search results window is described on a separate page.

As the application uses Full Text Search, the search string is considered as a set of keywords.

Hint

Keep in mind that full text search results are not available immediately after article is received. Full text search indexing is a time consuming operation and it is performed in a lazy manner in background to not freeze the user interface. It takes some minutes or even hours to index hundreds HTML files.

If the 'Article Description' view is opened from Topics feed or from Search results then the topics or search keywords are highlighted.

If the 'Article Offline' view is opened from Topics feed or from Search results then the topics or search keywords are highlighted.

Start search

The steps to start the search are as follows:

  • Enter the search string or select it from the list of saved searches

  • Select dates filter from the 'Dates' spin control

  • Set 'Min Count' threshold

  • Set 'Different keywords' threshold (if some keywords were entered)

  • Tap the 'Find' button

Alternatively saved search can be used to set keywords and thresholds.

Search Results

The search results are displayed as expanded list view with feeds as groups and sorted articles as children. For each found article the keywords together with their counts are displayed.

Tapping on the article in search results list opens the 'Article Description' view with highlighted search keywords. If article content was prefetched for offline reading then the 'Article Offline View' will highlight the search keywords as well.
