'Preferences' icon'Preferences' Window

'Preferences' window appears when the user selects 'Preferences' command in the main menu.

'Preferences' window contains 7 tabs - 'Main', 'User Interface', 'File Manager', 'Defaults', 'Battery', 'Space' and 'Extra' which are described below.

Click on the preview to open the page with full size image.

Tab 'Main'

'Preferences' window. Tab 'Main'.

Tab 'Main' allows controlling the network usage and the behavior of hyperlinks in the application web views.

Network Usage

The 'Use Wi-Fi connection only' setting effects browsing in the application web views as well as feed and article updates and downloads (both automatically and manually).

If 'Use Wi-Fi connection only' check box is checked and Wi-Fi network is not available then mobile networks (like 3G) will not be used. Otherwise the application will use any available connection.

At Boot

The 'Start auto update service' setting starts autoupdating service when device is switched on. Sagitta autoupdate service keeps track on feeds auto update schedule.

Follow Hyperlinks

The 'Follow Hyperlinks' settings effect the hyperlinks behavior in the application web views. If setting is switched on then clicking the link runs external browser. Otherwise the application web view displays the link itself. Use device 'Back' button to return.

Web View

The 'Enable Java Script' setting effects the application web views (both 'Article Description' and 'Offline mode').

Custom Text Selection

The 'Enable Custom Text Selection' flag enables the custom text selection in 'Article Description' view and in 'Article Offline' view.

Tab 'User Interface'

'Preferences' window. Tab 'User Interface'.

Quick Action Menu

Quick Action Menu appears as a set of icons arranged between the horizontal rails. The arrow on the top or bottom rail points to the selected item in the original view.

Because there is not enough space for text labels, use Quick Action Menu with caution and only after you get to know the basic commands icons.

Round Corners

This option applies the 'round corner' effect to the previews in the corresponding view.

Slow Action Buttons

Due to keywords highlighting some actions (opening 'Article Description' and 'Article Offline' views) can take 10 seconds and more for large HTML files. If flag 'Vibrate' is checked then the device will vibrate (providing a device has a vibrator) on tapping the slow action buttons.

Search results in a separate window

On some Android 2.x devices search results don't fit the window.

If flag 'Show search results in a separate window' is checked then search results are displayed in a the separate window.

Tab 'File Manager'

'Preferences' window. Tab 'File manager'.

The 'Select File Manager' group consists of three radio buttons: 'Do not use External File Manager', 'OI File Manager' and 'ES File Explorer'. The application can use any of the file managers listed above for 'Browse' operation - just check the radio button that corresponds to the installed file manager.

Both 'OI File Manager' and 'ES File Explorer' file managers are useful free reliable programs that can be easily installed from the Android Market.

ES File Explorer

If 'Do not use External File Manager' is checked, then the only way to enter a file path is to type the required path manually.

Tab 'Defaults'

'Preferences' window. Tab 'Defaults'.

Download Defaults

Tab 'Defaults' contains 2 check boxes (for images and scripts) that are used as default values when subscribing to new feed(s).

When feed is updated, some new articles are downloaded for offline reading (if the corresponding feed option is switched on).

If 'Download images' check box is switched on, then article images are downloaded. Otherwise the images are not downloaded and the corresponding tag is removed from the resulting html file.

If 'Download scripts' check box is switched on, then article scripts are downloaded. Otherwise the scripts are not downloaded and the corresponding tag is removed from the resulting html file.

Time Format

Check the 'Use 24h time format' flag to set 24 hours time format in TimePicker dialog.

User Agent for RSS

Some sites return different RSS files depending on the request user agent providing different articles for desktop computers and mobile devices.

'Default' value means the default Android browser of the mobile device (usually 'Android').

'Chrome' value means 'adult' Chrome browser.

The selected value is used as default when subscribing to new feed(s) and can be changed in 'Add Feed' and 'Edit Feed' dialogs.

Hint

Usually downloading scripts makes sense, but they are not working 100% as expected.

Tab 'Battery'

'Preferences' window. Tab 'Buttery'.

Tab 'Battery' displays the Battery state and level and allows to disable automatic feed updates if Battery is low and/or in the night time.

Tab 'Space'

'Preferences' window. Tab 'Space'.

Limits

Tab 'Space' is intended for tracking the disk space used by the application.

Tab 'Space' allows user to set limits for 'total file size for all feeds' and for 'database size'. The limits are checked on startup only. If some limit is exceeded then the warning notification is fired.

To reduce the space user can delete some feeds, turn off 'Prefetch articles for offline reading' and/or 'Download images' options or decrease the 'Days to keep' settings for the feeds that use much disk space.

Article Deletion when 'Days to Keep' period is Over

If feed retention period ('Days to keep' feed property) is expired then the deletion of unviewed, unread and starred articles depends on these 3 flags.

If flag 'Do not delete unviewed/unread/starred articles...' is checked then old unviewed/unread/starred articles will not be deleted after the retention period expiration. If flag 'Do not delete unviewed/unread/starred articles...' is not checked then unviewed/unread/starred articles will be deleted automatically.

Hint

Note, that the space can be limited for each feed separately - see 'Edit Feed' dialog.

Tab 'Extra'

'Preferences' window. Tab 'Extra'.

Tab 'Extra' contains 'Clear Preview Cache' button.

Use this button in case of problems with Topics or Feed previews.
